"A Scout for all eventualities"
1998
"A
Scout for all eventualities” is the claim it all started with. It was the beginning of an impressive
success story that got under way when Joachim Schoss and Christian Mangstl set up the Scout24
group of companies. From the outset the young company had a strong investor behind it in Beisheim Holding Schweiz.
The
growth of the Scout24 Group
1999
The AutoScout24 and ImmobilienScout24 portals started up as the group’s first companies to operate in the market. Before Scout24 was founded, AutoScout24 was already trading under the name MasterCar AG in Munich. AutoScout24 soon established itself within the group to become one of the biggest German-language used-car portals on the Internet.
What is now ImmobilienScout24 was set up
in 1997 as EIB Wohn- und Immobilieninternetwork GmbH in Munich. It moved to Berlin one year later, from
then on trading as Immobilien Scout GmbH. Immobilien Scout GmbH has been operating nationwide since
1999, and is now the largest German Internet marketplace offering property services.
2000
The
Scout24 Group expanded, conquering further sectors. FinanceScout24
went online as a comparison portal for banking and insurance products, JobScout24 started
as a job exchange with a wealth of situations vacant and career tips, and FriendScout24
as a partner and dating exchange. The GesundheitsScout24* and ShoppingScout24*
portals followed.
2001
Numerous
other company locations were established, including Italy and Spain.
2002
The
group became bigger: the travel specialist TravelScout24 went online.
2004
T-Online
International AG acquired Scout24 from Beisheim Holding Schweiz.
2005
The
youngest member of the group, ElectronicScout24, was incorporated. There are now
seven marketplaces in the group.
2006
Since
the merger of T-Online International and Deutsche Telekom AG that year, the Scout24 Group has been a
wholly owned subsidiary of the Deutsche Telekom Group.
The Local24 and Jobs.de platforms heralded in a new section of the Scout24 Group’s history: set up as a regional portal in 2006, Jobs.de was already operating on a national level the following year.
Scout24:
Mobile Apps and the Social Web
2009
Scout24
launched the first iPhone applications, the pioneers being the AutoScout24 marketplace
with the “AutoScout24 to go” app and ImmobilienScout24 with “ImmoScout24”.
The
group established itself on the Social Web. Since then, users have been able to interact with the Scout24
Group marketplaces on the numerous Facebook pages, Twitter accounts and Youtube channels to find the
precise information they need. Discover the Scout24 channels on the Social Web here.
ImmobilienScout24 launched the “Mein Umzug” [Me moving house] app. In April the Scout24 Group hit the 500,000 downloads mark with its three current iPhone applications. That puts the Scout24 Group iPhone applications among the top-favourites in Apple’s iTunes Store Navigation and Productivity segments.
Today more than 1,000 men and women work for the Scout24 Group and its marketplaces.
