Scout24 trend survey shows: one in the three Internet users expects direct social media communication with companies

  • What social media users want more than anything is contacts, information and news
  • Trans-generational: the use of social media has nothing to do with age

Munich, 10 March 2010 – quicker link to companies required: more than one in three Internet users wants to communicate directly with companies in future via social media channels.

And with job and house searches, too, Twitter & Co. are at the forefront: young users in particular look for new jobs (29 per cent) or a new place to stay via the Social Web. Every other user not only reads information and searches for links, but also adds his/her own opinion and experiences to the discussion.

So far the Top 3 of the most frequent reasons for using new Web 2.0 channels have been: managing contact with friends and acquaintances (73 per cent), reading information and others’ opinions (55 per cent) and finding out new things from the online world (48 per cent).

What is surprising is that social media are not just a communication channel for younger people. 61 per cent of older Internet users (50-65 years of age) likewise obtain information via the Social Web. Particularly when buying a car (27 per cent) and choosing insurance (22 per cent) older surfers resort to the Web 2.0 to assist their search.

A representative random sample of 1,043 Internet users took part in the latest trend survey conducted by Scout24 and the market research institute Innofact in January 2010. We will gladly send you detailed results upon request.
