Scout24 aims to be climate-neutral by 2025

  • Greenhouse gas emissions to be reduced by 60 percent
  • Remaining emissions will be compensated
  • Company establishes its own sustainability committee

Munich / Berlin, 9 September 2020 – Scout24 aims to become climate-neutral by 2025. By then, the digital company wants to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by around 60 percent compared to the base year 2018. In 2020, the company has already saved around 30 per cent in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2018, primarily by reducing energy consumption and switching to electricity from renewable energies. From 2025 on, Scout24 will compensate unavoidable CO2 emissions by supporting climate protection projects.

"Even though Scout24 is not active in the manufacturing sector with substantial use of resources and complex supply chains, we are aware of our ecological responsibility. We have therefore made our impact on the environment and climate a focus topic for 2020 and set ourselves ambitious goals. In order to become climate-neutral by 2025, our approach is: avoid, reduce, compensate," says Tobias Hartmann, CEO of Scout24 AG.

Action plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
In order to become climate-neutral, Scout24 has set up an action plan with numerous measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Among other things, the company will adapt its travel policy to avoid flights for business trips and to hold meetings digitally in an even more focused manner. In addition, Scout24 will use more climate-neutral print products and ensure sustainable and careful consumption of resources in its offices.

New Berlin office building with highest sustainability standards
The new Berlin office building for up to 800 employees, which Scout24 will move into in November 2020, will also contribute to a further reduction in the consumption of resources. With its ecologically sustainable construction and energy efficiency, the building meets the highest sustainability standards and is to be certified according to the platinum standard by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

Foundation of a sustainability committee
Scout24 pursues an integrated sustainability approach that combines social, ecological and economic aspects. The climate strategy is the first part of a comprehensive sustainability program that Scout24 has initiated in 2020. In a next step, Scout24 will establish its own Sustainability Committee in October 2020. The task of the committee, headed by CEO Tobias Hartmann, is to define concrete sustainability goals and measures for the individual corporate divisions in order to integrate the topic even more strongly into all corporate divisions.
